Myanmar @ Burma

Myanmar or the Union of Myanmar also known as Burma.

Myanmar is a union of all the different Myanmar Nationalities living together in his land. Myanmar also known as Burma is situated between longitudes of about 90 to 100 – East, we are six and a half hours ahead of GMT.

Geographically, Myanmar is situated in the western part of South East Asia. To the east, we have China, Laos and Thailand, and to the west we meet the borders of India and Bangladesh.

Myanmar has an area of 261228 square miles or about 68000 square kilometers. It is the largest mainland country in Southeast Asia.

When we look at the physical features of Myanmar, we find that it has three main mountain ranges, the Western Yoma, the BagoYoma and the Eastern Shan Plateau.

In the far north, we have snow – capped mountains which are the extensions of the Himalayas. Among them, Mount Hkakaborazi, with a height of 5881 meters, is the highest peak in South East Asia.

Myanmar has four main rivers running through the country from north to south, namely, the Ayeyarwaddy, the Chindwin, the Sittaung and the Thanlwin. The longest and the most important is the Ayewaddy (Irrewaddy). With a total length of 2090 kilometers, it starts and ends inside the boundary of Myanmar Nainggan.

Near the mouth of the river, there is a big remarkable area called the Ayeyarwaddy Delta. With an area of 31000 square kilometers, it is a very fertile rich land and an ideal place for agriculture, known as “the Rice Bowl of Myanmar “.
It also has a long sea coastline to the west, facing the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. So it has beautiful beaches and is rich in marine biodiversity.

Myanmar National Flag and National Anthem
The flag was adopted on 3 January 1974, the year when Burma became the Socialist Republic of the Burmese Federation. Since then the state has changed its name, but not its flag. The fourteen stars are for 14 states, the cog wheel and rice are for industry and agriculture.
The State Flag is rectangular in shape and its background colour is red with a dark blue canton at the top left corner. A pinion and ears of paddy encircled with fourteen white stars of equal size have been superimposed on the dark blue field of the canton. The center of the pinion coincides with the center of the blue canton. The pinion has fourteen cogs of equal size and within it are two ears of paddy consisting of 34 grains. At the top of each cog of the pinion is a star with five vertices. Of the three colours of the flag, red signifies courage and decisiveness, white signifies purity and virtue and dark blue signifies peace and integrity. Flag ratio: 6-11.

Till the end of the world, Myanmar!,
Since she is the true inheritance from our forefathers, we love and value her.
We will fight and give our lives for the union

For her prosperity, we will responsibly shoulder the task,
Standing as one in duty to our precious land.
